Author: Bishop Lifting Products

Users can turn to the drum lifters crafted by Bishop Lifting Solutions when they want to move heavy drums without using a forklift attachment. A drum lifter can complete the same type of lifting tasks yet it takes much less specialized training to run lifters than it does to run a forklift. Rigging companies often find that there are not enough forklift operators and forklift equipment available to complete their tasks in a timely manner. This personnel shortage is why a drum lifter is a very important piece of equipment for companies to have on hand. These lifters are very useful for riggers who move industrial drums on a regular basis.

Bishop Lifting Solutions has fabricated a drum lifter that offers clients both incredible value and dependability. The BLP Ultra™ Drum Lifter can handle a 750lb capacity, so heavy lifters are able to move more material with fewer loads. With 55 gallon drums and locking gates, every lift will be safe for both the users and loaded materials. Heavy lifting customers who are interested in learning more about this lifter should continue reading about the specifications of Bishop Lifting Solution’s drum lifters.

Synthetic round slings are made of nylon or polyester yarns and can offer riggers many different advantages. Each synthetic material has its own unique properties, and users must consult the manufacturer or distributor to find out the possibility of using their round sling around certain harsh environments.

A well qualified person should be designated to inspect all slings in order to ensure safe use, including inspecting fastenings and attachments for damage every day prior to use. This person should also perform periodic in-depth inspections. While these periodic inspections vary in frequency, inspectors should not wait longer than 12 months between these detailed inspections. OSHA’s sling standards do not specifically require records of inspections, but the ASME standard contains provisions for inspection records.

When using round slings, riggers should make sure that they are not loaded beyond their rate capacity. Personnel should make sure that body parts are kept free of the areas between the sling and the load, as well as between sling and any cranes or hoist hooks being used with the lift. People standing near the work area should never be in line with any sling legs under tension, nor should they pass under a suspended load. For additional information about how to improve the conditions of your workplace, continue reading about round sling safety.

Campbell chain is one of the most trusted names in the lifting and rigging industry. The chains in Campbell’s line are crafted of the toughest alloy steel and are regulated under several OSHA regulations. In fact, OSHA states that only alloy chains of grade 80 or 100 are approved for overhead lifting, because these two types of Campbell chains are the only type that will stretch adequately when overloaded. Every alloy chain that is used for lifting is manufactured specifically by Campbell for this purpose; chains made of other materials may result in project failure and user injury.

Bishop Lifting Products offers both Grade 80 and Grade 100 alloy chains crafted by Campbell, which is a subsidiary of Cooper Hand Tools®. A Grade 100 chain has a 25% higher working load limit than a Grade 80 chain, yet is much lighter in weight. BLP carries over 650 different options and models for Campbell chain products, including some of the industry’s most trusted alloy products.
Bishop Lifting Products is pleased to offer a full line of lifting beams and spreader bars to our heavy lifting and rigging clients. We are proud that our lifting devices are built using the highest quality standards, and each product is inspected and tested using the most stringent processes. Even though our engineers test and inspect each product prior to distribution, users should still adhere to industry safety requirements during the use of these and other lifting products.

There are minimal maintenance requirements for lifting beam and spreader bar products; however there are ways to ensure that all bolted joints are sound and corrosion damage is avoided. It is important to regularly inspect the beams for defects such as corrosion, beam distortion, worn or missing bolts, cracked welds, worn attachment points, or other visible defects. Users should also remember to store and handle lifting beams correctly, referring to safety instructions for safe sling and attachment use when necessary. It is important that no single lifting point become overloaded by the sling or handling methods in order to prevent instability. For further information on how to use these lifting devices safely, or to learn how to choose the right product, continue reading about BLP Solutions’ lifting beams and spreader bars.

Wire rope slings are a vital part of successfully completing material lifting applications in Houston and around the world. Lifting clients who need slings of various types can turn to manufacturers such as Bishop Lifting Solutions and its partner Slingmax® to find the right sling for their lifting job’s specifications.

Many users choose wire rope in Houston for their slings because it is durable, strong, and very abrasion resistant. Wire rope slings conform to the shape of their loads and are also capable of successfully lifting very hot materials. Commercial fishing, military, mining, oil and gas, power generation and petrochemical industries rely on the performance of Slingmax® slings for everyday applications. Although every manufacturer produces a unique product line, customers need to select a wire rope sling based on its durability in tough conditions. For this reason, an increasing number of Houston lifting companies turn to the Slingmax® line. For more information about Slingmax® slings, continue reading.

Author: Bishop Lifting Products, Inc.

The safe handling of materials is a hallmark of Houston rigging companies’ workplace safety. Injury or material handling accidents can occur if workers do not promote safe practices during heavy lifts. Safe heavy lifts for Houston lifting and material handling industries begin with a thorough assessment of the work area involved with the lift, along with a complete understanding of how to use rigging hardware.

Any assessment of a work environment should include consideration of the duration of the lifting task, metric space requirements, required force for the lift, climate and other possible factors. Employees who work in the station or near the lift area should also be consulted about safety, because they are the ones who know better than anyone else the requirements of the wire rope rigging job.

There are basically three main categories of rigging solutions for Houston companies: mechanical, semi-assisted and manual. To learn more about how to safely apply lifting processes to your project, continue reading here about Houston rigging safety.

When riggers and other workers in the heavy lifting industry need slings for their lifting projects, they may not be sure if the application needs a synthetic sling, such as one from the Twin-Path® slings line, or a wire rope sling. In situations such as these, it is best to consider the lift conditions, the material type being lifted and the safety features that often come standard with synthetic slings.

In order to decide whether your particular application would benefit from a synthetic sling such as the Twin-Path® sling, or a wire rope sling like those crafted by Slingmax®, you must first consider the features that come standard with the Twin-Path® line and compare it to your rigging project. The main features of these synthetic slings are abrasion resistance, improved safety features and harsh environment performance capabilities. To learn more about which slings are right for you, continue reading about wire rope vs. synthetic slings.

Fabricated with high performance K-Spec® fibers and Covermax® bulked nylon outer cover, Slingmax® synthetic slings are built to be extremely abrasion resistant. The Twin-Path® patented design was created by Slingmax® to provide stronger inspection and safety standards for riggers, who often noticed a shortfall in single path roundslings. Besides featuring fiber optics for easy inspection, these synthetic slings also provide the user with backup protection if the primary path is cut.

All Slingmax® synthetic roundslings fabricated by BLP include an innovative Check-Fast™ inspection feature, which is designed to even further improve project safety. This convenient system means that the rigger only has to check for the visibility of the Check-Fast™ Tag and External Warning Indicator (EWI) on the roundsling product before the lift in order to ensure a safe project. One of the most popular Slingmax® slings is the Sparkeater®. This synthetic sling is ideal for successfully lifting loads without damaging the materials’ surface.

Slingmax® also has an entire line of durable wire rope slings. The Tri-Flex® wire rope sling is a three part roundsling that efficiently replaces single part slings and is used in any type of heavy lifts, including steel erection. Riggers may also choose the Gator-Laid® and Gator-Flex® multipart slings. Finally, Slingmax® and Bishop Lifting Products have considered projects that require short, heavy lifts, which is why the Gator-Flex® Nine Part Grommets provide users with all of the benefits of standard multipart slings, while providing a load to sling body diameter ratio of an impressive 5:1.
